Well, they are the posers who like to listen to other stuff. Many good guitar influence came from GOOD thrash metal bands. Megadeth is notorious for very complex guitar riffs/solos and Toxik has a habit of sweep picking. Annihilator is probably one of the most progressive/technical thrash metal band out there, using a lot of harmonic minors and diminished sliding into minors. There is plenty of good thrash metal bands that give influence to today's shredding.
