Gear Up! M-Audio JamLab Personal Guitar System Hybrid

M-Audio JamLab Personal Guitar System Hybrid

The home computer is becoming as important to guitarists as their axes and amplifiers. Not only is it an unbelievable resource for videos, sheet music and guitar lessons but there are many great software programs available that allow you to record and produce your own music, slow down guitar parts for study, jam with a virtual band and re-amplify your guitar with virtual amp plug-ins. Computer software keeps consolidating separate tools for the guitarist into one central, convenient place. If you haven’t started taking advantage of these tools I think the M-Audio JamLab Guitar System is a great option. And, right now, it is available for a ridiculously low price of $59.99 on clearance at MusiciansFriend.com!

From the M-Audio product description:

“The JamLab Personal Guitar System turns your PC or Mac into a personal guitar practice tool without the need for any other hardware except your favorite guitar. The compact JamLab interface connects easily to your computer via a simple USB connection, and features a 1/4″ input for your guitar and 1/8″ headphone/line output. The included GT Player Express software features amp simulation and virtual guitar effects for EQ, chorus, reverb, and more. GT Player can also play standard audio files, and can even slow them down-perfect for practicing and easy learning. You also get WAV drum loops from the popular ProSessions Sound and Loops Sample Library. Load them into GT Player in any order for an instant custom drum machine to jam with. Drum songs are also provided as MP3 files.”

The M-Audio JamLab Guitar System is about the least expensive audio interface I have seen and comes with a robust complement of guitar-oriented software. I have many dedicated software programs that I use to perform the functions outlined above but I haven’t found one offering that seems to hit on as many helpful functions as the JamLab.  I own a couple of M-Audio audio interfaces and can vouch for their products. The only caution on the JamLab I could find was possible shaky Vista support. XP and Mac users expressed solid drivers support.

Definitely worth a look!

If you like JamLab, you’ll really like AxePort Pro:

@Rocky Dalton: The AxePort does look slick. I remember reading the press release on Harmony Central about it. I like the NI Guitar Combos software included and the velvet carrying pouch! About $125 street price is what I found on MusiciansFriend.
