Hello,
I am a guitar teacher and struggle with whether or not to force students to use a pick. At the moment I am letting them choose and then teaching them things suitable for their style. I have heard that it's more difficult to adjust to a pick after not using one to begin with than vice versa.
Thanks and great website!

Hey Storm,
Thanks for support.
I got a new electric guitar, I tuned it up. But the B string has this funny noisy continuous tone and it is only heard when I use my thumb (from above the string) this noise can't be heard when I use my middle finger or when I hit any fret of the same string. I really don't know what exactly is the problem. Can you help me with this.

I have a question. I have been trying to learn for a year now (I am 51) and basically by using tabs and trying to play my favorite songs. It would be my luck that I love Stevie Ray. I see so much about scales, modes, arpeggios and other theory. I don't know where to start with the theory. After one year I am just now starting to strum songs because I have been focusing on playing notes, especially the blues. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much for this site. I just found it!

As a guitar instructor, what do you recommend getting down first? Chords? Scales? I've played the saxophone for most of my 27 years, but I've always wanted to learn guitar. Where should I start, and where should I go from there?
